If it is that time of the month, when all you want to do is curl up in your bed and cry, then it is obviously linked to menstrual cramps. This is a common symptom during your period and many women are hit by menstrual cramps, more than others, and they experience intense pain and discomfort. For those women who are looking for home remedies, there are several things that they can try.

 Change your Diet

The first thing that you need to do is to change your diet:

  • If you are craving sugary or fatty foods on your period, avoid them
  • Women usually crave doughnuts or potato chips, but they should look for food items that would ease their pain.
  • They should choose anti-inflammatory fruits like cherries, or vegetables like tomatoes and bell peppers
  • Include more dark leafy greens and calcium-rich beans

Turmeric for menstrual cramps is a very effective strategy. It helps ease pain and doesn’t have many side effects. Women might resort to pharmaceuticals, to get rid of the pain right away, but this method can be effective and has no long term side effects.

Turmeric for menstrual cramps has been used in Chinese medicine and Ayurveda medicine, thousands of years ago. It is considered to be a pain reliever, especially inflamed pain which women usually experience before or during their period.

Ginger is used in food, to make them taste better, and it is also included in soups made for curing flu. However, is ginger good for menstrual cramps or not? Ginger has a very zesty flavor and it is famously used in curries and even healthy smoothies. Thus, ginger can be used because:

  • Its healing powers
  • Can reduce the severity of menstrual cramps
  • Reduces nausea
  • Reduction in the severity of cramps

Women can brew a cup of ginger tea, or add dried ginger powder to their meals. Most women feel that they can’t eat anything except junk food during menstrual cramps, but adding ginger to their meals can reduce this feeling.

Chamomile Tea

Sipping chamomile tea is an effective home remedy, to reduce menstrual pains or period pain. The reason why chamomile tea works so well is that it soothes a person and is specifically good for headaches and vomiting.

Cinnamon can be a woman’s best friend when she is going through menstrual cramps. Young women usually take about 420 milligrams of cinnamon, three times a day. They take it in the first three days of their menstrual cycle and faced less bleeding and pain. Cinnamon also helps those who usually feel like vomiting during their menstrual cycle. They can sprinkle cinnamon on a cup of hot cocoa, or their cereal.

Heating Pads

If the pain is too intense, then women can use heading pads for menstrual cramps. They can easily heat up a pad and use it on their lower abdomen. It would ease the menstrual cramps and would relax the muscles of the uterus. As the blood flow becomes better, the pain eases up, and women can feel less uncomfortable.

Bad Period Cramps

It is not necessary that everyone goes through bad period cramps. In fact, such cramps can be a sign of other things like:

  • Endometriosis
  • A disorder that grows inside the uterus and affects the bladder and ovaries too
  • Uterine Fibroids
  • Different size masses that grow inside the uterine walls
  • Adenomyosis
  • Tissue that lines the uterus, starting to grow inside its wall

There are several things that women shouldn’t consume, during their menstrual cycle or cramps. Eliminating coffee, soda, and chocolate can lessen down the pain women feel. Instead, women should try smoothies that are laced with antioxidant-rich ingredients, like protein powder and berries.
